manifest
A manifest is typically a document listing everything on a ship, the cargo, passengers and crew of a ship, plane or train. In that way, this is a manifest for my site, listing and explaining all of the pages (cargo) on this site as well as a little bit more about me (the crew).
I was only really exposed to the Neocities and Indie Web/Old Web community in the early months of 2024. Not that I didn't know about this at all, as someone whose been around since the early 2010s and someone who is an active Tumblr user, I've crossed paths with this community many times. It was always something in the background of my life up until now, with life committments making it hard to find the time to learn how to code, or the energy to create. Then along comes exam season and would you look at that, its motivation and energy to learn HTML and create assets and CSS and more!
The main inspiration for starting this was the concept that I could create a small little corner of the world for myself, and have full control over every part of it. Furthermore, as I continued, learning HTML, how to work CSS, draw the required assets and join the community became fun and enjoyable, hard work being reflected in real time. I wanted a place where I could show my thoughts and creations to the world semi-anonymously, another mask to wear that no one in my real life could find without explicit direction.
Originally, the inspiration was to create a cafe style website, with a GUI that looked like a menu. That idea lasted for less than a day before I decided that I didn't want to be held by such a strict theme. Also, I don't really go to cafes, so I had nothing to draw inspiration from. I chose the name Moonview Window because I did all of my coding at night (I still do!) and I used to have a beautiful view of the skyline of my city sillouted by the bright moon. That was the only real time when I ever felt like I had time to myself, turning over all my thoughts and worries about the world under pale moonlight, no duties or ties dragging me along to society's tune. In a way, I hope for this site to serve as a window into my thoughts at those times, to grant me some of that midnight peace during the madness of everyday. Like the endless cycle of the moon, I too take breaks from this website, updating it where I find time amidst the endless eddies of life's great current. But I know that no matter what, this small corner will always be waiting for me when I get back.
Parts of the site
As you've probably seen from my main page, I split my pages roughly into three sections, Personal, for me to post personal thoughts and photos, Media Log, where I post my thoughts on media that I have consumed, and Creative, where I post my creative creations.
Most likely when you are reading this, a good chunk hasn't been created yet... oops.
Personal
Blog: Long posts about certain topics that I'm interested in. Proofread and edited.
Journal: Longer thoughts, largely used as a diary.
Microblog: Random snippets and thoughts that come to mind. Probably the most commonly updated page.
Photobook: Random photos from my day to day life.
Media Log
Video Games: Reviews/thoughts on games I've played. Probably going to be quite empty for a while, I'm not really big on playing games much anymore.
Books: Reviews/thoughts on books/fanfiction I've read. I do read a lot but it takes me a while to put my feelings into words.
Animanga: Reviews/thoughts on anime and manga I've read and watched. This will probably be the most updated of all three categories.
Creative
Gallery: A place for me to show off art I've made!
Writings: A place for me to show off short stories or poems I've written.
